“Quirky cool design from Denmark”
Loudspeakers are a part of our homes just like any other piece of furniture or art, and to most people it is important to have a beautiful and stylish home.
JERN® differs from other high end speakers because the choice of material and casting method allows their designers and engineers to create new shapes that improve the performance instead of regular square boxes that compromise on sound quality.
JERN®is not a mass producer of speakers. Each speaker remains essentially hand-built by craftsmen with decades of experience at their fingertips.
The name Jern literally translates from its native Danish as ‘iron’ and the origins of this loudspeaker are far from the usual method of speaker cabinet design.
Behind JERN® is a company called Dansk Skalform, which is actually a casting company.
Traditionally, they have made an unlimited number of differing components, predominantly for the car and machine business sectors.
The company was founded in 1975 by the diploma engineer Holger Dissing and today it is still family run by the Søren Dissing and Peter Dissing.
Curiosity has always driven this Danish company and one day Søren Dissing, stopped and thought to himself: What would happen if a loudspeaker was moulded out of one solid piece of iron? So Søren and his team of engineers started working on a prototype for a loudspeaker.
The criteria was that every single piece should be of the finest quality. As they say in Danish, nowhere did the team jump the fence at the lowest point in the making of the JERN loudspeaker.
Finally a new and revolutionary compact speaker was created, showcasing clean sounds accompanied by a beautiful organic shaped design.
Jern use a special grade grey cast Iron (called Vibrakill ®), with a very high amount of Graphite (Carbon) mixed in the Iron. The Graphite dampens our cabinets vibrations 100 times better than Aluminium, and much better than MDF and wood.
Iron is also much stronger and heavier which also reduces cabinet vibrations, so you mainly hear the good sound from the loudspeaker drivers.
The making of the loudspeaker at a casting company added a brand new raw factor and authenticity to the world of sound.
The detailed surface of each speaker is unique to that single speaker. Just like fingerprints – they look similar but in detail there is no other.
Some might ask themselves – What would a moulding company know about sound, and why would I choose them over a traditional wooden or MDF box
Well, to those in doubt we suggest you listen to Jern speakers, and decide for yourself.
The Jern range from ’11’ to ’15’ follows the same principle – the cast iron enclosure remains the same and only the drivers and internal components are modified in terms of enhanced specifications and performance as you move upwards throughout the range.
We suggest you consider the JERN 11 and 12 series unless you intend you add a subwoofer, in which case the 14 and 15 series will provide a higher specification. For subwoofers we recommend another Danish company Lyngdorf and their BW2 and BW3 subs.
Jern loudspeakers are ideal for most room placement challenges and due to its unique design can also be placed close to a wall.
